Wait, what? The Rocket Run theme is in this game? Yes it is! Strangely, even though the music is in the game, it isn't used anywhere. So the only way you can listen to it is if you hack the ROM so that it plays this theme (though I've also heard of someone's cartridge getting screwed up and it played this song as well). It took me a while to find the song in the ROM, but I found it!

In Donkey Kong Country 3, though, you can hear it in Rocket Rush, the last non-boss level in the game.

In case anybody cares, I recorded this from the Japanese version for GBC, but I don't think it matters (I've heard that it was in the English version for GB as well). I also used VBA-M instead of VBA 1.8.0, because that seems to be the most accurate version of VBA, sound-wise.

I have not heard any other unused themes in this game, though. I also tried looking in DKL2, and didn't find any unused ones in the game, either. I have heard of some rumors of a couple unused songs in DKL, though...

Unfortunately, the quality is somewhat worse when I uploaded it here...

Author: Blaziken257
Keywords: Donkey Kong Land III music Rocket Run Rocket Rush
Added: Fri, 16 Jan 2009 23:40:44 GMT

Video codes to display this video on your website!

http://www.livevideo.com

In the GBC version of DKL3, the default demo (the Jetty Jitters one, the one that appears if you don't press any buttons on the title screen) doesn't play properly. After Kiddy hits the Klasp, Dixie's movements get screwed up and she just randomly moves around. She then gets hit by a Klasp as well. The GB version doesn't do this -- even after hitting the Klasp, Dixie still moves like normal. I don't know why the GBC version is any different, seeing that it has the exact same game engine and physics. Maybe Rare screwed up when porting it?

It's worth noting that none of the other three demos (Rickety Rapids, Deep Reef Grief, Whiplash Dash) are glitchy. They play just like the GB version. So why did THIS one screw up?

Also, I heard that there's a similar glitch at the end of the Xbox 360 port of Banjo-Kazooie...

Oh, and this is the most amount of text I had in any video in over a year... just felt like pointing that out...

Author: Blaziken257
Keywords: donkey kong land iii gb gbc button desync glitch rareware nintendo
Added: Mon, 01 Dec 2008 18:58:23 GMT

Video codes to display this video on your website!

http://www.livevideo.com

Previously, I didn't bother with this, because I focused more on the content of the video itself, but maybe my videos will look better if I do this than just doing the title. I tried not to make it too long so that people watching it won't think, "Come on! Just get on with the video already!" like what some people do with their videos. Tell me what you think of it.
I haven't decided whether I'm going to use the same music for every video, or whether the music will depend on the game in the video. But I'm definitely going to include some kind of music.
Oh, and for reference, here are the games included, in order:
1. Donkey Kong Country
2. Donkey Kong Land
3. Donkey Kong Country 2
4. Donkey Kong Land 2
5. Donkey Kong Country 3
6. Donkey Kong Land 3
7. Super Mario Bros. 2 (Japan)
8. Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
9. Pokémon Silver

Keitai Denjuu Telefang 2 - Rival Battle #2

I've actually wanted to upload a video of this battle for almost a year now, but the difficulty of navigating through the maze needed to get to here turned me off from doing it for a very, very long time until now.
This maze is really complicated because there are plenty of switches to press, and often a switch would open a door far away, which makes it easy to get lost. Also, another thing is that there are four different color-coded sections to this maze, and in order to get from one colored room to another, you have to exit the relic, navigate your way through a desert (which is a maze in itself), and find the entrance to the room you're trying to find. It's also really large, making it easier to get lost. Even the mazes at the end of the first game, and even the one in my last video, are NOTHING compared to this one. This is one of the most complicated mazes in any video game I've seen, in fact. At least you aren't trapped like before, and you can heal upon exiting the relic.
To give you an idea how complicated this is, I made some maps for you to see:
The desert, which is outside the relic, which you must navigate to enter different parts of the relic
Relic (Floor 1)
Relic (Basement 1)
Relic (Basement 2)
Now for the battle itself. As soon as you try to get the treasure chest at the end of the maze, Otome, your rival, pops up and stops you from getting it. Then they talk (I don't know what they're saying, since it's in Japanese), then the battle starts!
This time, her main Denjuu, Gyuun, is evolved into its Aquatic form (it was Sky previously), making it harder than the first battle against her (not to mention it's even faster than it was before). She also has two other Denjuu, Pulchela and Makyuret, and ALL of them are almost 8-10 levels ahead of mine, which makes the battle harder than it could have been. (Though, on the other hand, mine have type advantages for the most part.)
Plenty of times, I almost lose the battle, but when I almost lose, the opponent either makes a stupid move (e.g. use a non-damaging move when I have one Denjuu with little health left), misses one of my Denjuu, or I end up healing in time. To make things harder, one of my Denjuu runs away when low at health, leaving me with two Denjuu. And, Otome constantly uses items when she has the chance (much like the modern Pokémon games, don't you think?) But I manage to win at the end, with Gymbaron's Meteor move being a HUGE help.
Also, I've heard of some people who think the music at the beginning is scary for some reason... even though I happen to like it...
Finally, again, a patch was used to partially translate the game in English, and here's the link to the patch FOR SPEED VERSION ONLY!

As usual, I get the bonus and DK coins. I skip Squitter because it's faster to go without him. You're SUPPOSED to get that first bonus with Squitter, but I just float over with Dixie instead.
OK, now for the REAL reason why I uploaded this video: I wanted to show off my color palette hack of this game. About a year ago, I figured out to hack color palettes in GBC games and this was one of the first games (not the very first one, though...) that I attempted to modify color palettes. My biggest change is that I made the river levels have this autumn look (like Bobbing Barrel Brawl in DKC3), and I REALLY liked how it turned out. You'll notice that some of the other changes I made were some of the sprites, and Dixie's and Kiddy's clothes (especially Kiddy's) in the bonus screens (based off the COLOR "cheat" in DKC3). So, this is the first video where I've shown a hack of a DK game.
If you want to see what this level NORMALLY looks like, watch my Surface Tension video. It (along with Riverbank Riot) has the same colors.
I'm not sure whether or not I'm going to use this hack in future videos...
Anyway, if you want the hack for yourself, here's the link to the patch:

      <media:category>Video Games</media:category>

A speedrun of Koco Channel.

The first glitch is one where you can jump on a Lurchin if it hits the top of the water. The timing of this must be EXACT, and it's really difficult to do. It's funny to watch, though... (If anybody cares, I just found this glitch a couple of days ago by accident!)
The second one is the steel keg glitch. Unlike in DKC3, steel kegs don't float on water (they must have somehow gotten more dense). So if it hits an enemy while it sinks into water, it defeats it! (I actually knew about this one when I first had the game, because this one is easy to do by accident.)
I also show these glitches in slow motion to make it easier to see.

Author: Blaziken257
Keywords: donkey kong land iii rareware nintendo game boy color
Added: Mon, 10 Nov 2008 04:27:39 GMT

Video codes to display this video on your website!

http://www.livevideo.com

This one takes place soon after the last Telefang 2 video I uploaded, where you're stuck in this hideout and cannot get out of it until you defeat the boss in this area. This hideout is really long and difficult, because it's an annoying maze, where you can get lost easily, plus there are all these switches that unlock doors in different parts of the hideout. It doesn't help that all these Hermits (the Grassland form) walk around and you have to fight them if they see you. This is the one of the hardest mazes in any game... it's even harder than any maze in the original Telefang... though the maze soon after this boss battle is even more complicated. At least the music in this hideout is awesome, which you can hear at the beginning of this video. If you are curious to what this hideout looks like, or you're stuck here, I took the time to make a map of this place.

Floor 1
Floor 2

Anyway, as for the battle itself, this one was hard, because one of my strongest Denjuu, Rex, hasn't evolved yet, and is only at Level 23, and the opponent Denjuu are from Level 35-42. The other two Denjuu I used, Parrotto (which is a secret Denjuu) and Chapmani, are at higher levels, and have type advantages, but are still at lower levels than the opponents are. Can they still be beaten? Well, with the help of special (or electric, or magic, whatever you want to call them) attacks, and items, it ends up being possible. I get bad luck at the beginning, where Chapmani faints, but the opponents still fall.

Oh, and Rex evolves after this battle. I wish this game had a more interesting animation sequence... it just evolves without any real animation. Even the original Telefang was more interesting when watching Denjuu evolve, even if it was blatantly ripped off of Pokémon's animation sequence.

Finally, 99% of the English text in this game is from a hack that I and some other people made. I'll link to the patch soon...

Now I hope people actually WATCH this video... Did any of you know that Rareware made games for the NES? Well, it's true. Rareware made quite a few games before the well-known Donkey Kong Country and Banjo-Kazooie, and this is one of them! And even before there were pre-rendered graphics where everything was modeled in 3-D, this game had impressive graphics for the NES -- it had nice 3-D affects. Just look at the background. It has parallax scrolling! That's pretty rare for the NES, if you ask me. The game has a 3-D look to it overall, which looks great.

But why am I playing this game? Well, ever since the AVGN reviewed it on YouTube, I wanted to try the game for myself. I already knew that this game was made by Rare way before AVGN's video, so it must be good! Well, even though the AVGN made it sound like a bad game, it really isn't that bad. It sure is hard, though.

This game is so hard that I can never make it past the third level. Because of this, I decided to try something different for a change -- rather than upload a speedrun, this time I'm going to show myself messing up at the game, while seeing how far I can get in this level. What you're seeing here is the farthest I ever got in this level. Really. I'm not kidding.

The first part isn't hard at all -- you just beat up a bunch of enemies by punching them. The hard part is when you ride a vehicle that goes very fast. It's similar to the mine cart stages in DKC, but harder -- all these walls come by at an increasingly fast speed, and you have to either jump on them, weave around them, or stay under them. There are also ramps that you have to take, which isn't that hard, thankfully. There are also some enemies that you have to dodge, and I only got past these once, which you'll see in this video (unfortunately, I mess up soon after that, because I didn't know you had to jump). Yes, you're seeing the only time I have ever gotten past these enemies.

I mess up a lot and lose lives. Even with an extra life that I get at 100,000 points, I lose them all and get a Game Over. The Game Over screen is rather bland for a Rareware game -- I was expecting to see Rash (the character I was controlling) all beat up or something.

I think the music in this game was composed by none other than... David Wise! I think a lot of you know who he is...

One last thing -- This is probably the only Battletoads video I'll upload, and I probably won't upload this on YouTube.

Author: Blaziken257
Keywords: battletoads nes nintendo rareware
Added: Tue, 09 Sep 2008 08:34:30 GMT

Video codes to display this video on your website!

http://www.livevideo.com

The physics are really odd in Donkey Kong Land. Not only can you jump up ropes like in other DKC and DKL games to go faster, but it's much easier than it is in other games! In this game, all you have to do is hold Up and keep pressing A. It's really weird to watch, so this run takes advantage of the technique as much as possible.

The physics are interesting in this game in that you speed up a LOT when you bounce off of enemies -- the exact opposite with other games. The only real mistake is around the O, where I miss the second Hogwash and stop for a bit.

      <media:category>Video Games</media:category>

A speedrun of Arctic Abyss. This level seems a lot harder than it is on the Game Boy, because Puftups explode, and Enguarde doesn't seem to be able to defeat enemies manually (you have to keep pressing Y, similar to in DKL3). But I liked how this turned out.

If you do it in the fifth palace in the room with the falling blocks, you can warp back to the first palace! You can do it whether or not you beat the boss in the first palace as well! I did not bother beating the boss yet so that I can beat it from warping from the fifth palace.

As you can see, when you warp like this, it retains the look of the fifth palace even though it's really the first. It has the green color and the lego-like bricks. Also interesting to note that when you fight the boss, he looks really glitchy, probably because it's trying to load tiles from the fifth boss. He still functions like normal, though; the glitch is only cosmetic. Also, since you still haven't beaten the fifth boss yet, the fifth palace is still accessible, but the first isn't.

Author: Blaziken257
Keywords: zelda ii link nes nintendo fairy glitch
Added: Mon, 30 Jun 2008 15:13:43 GMT

Video codes to display this video on your website!

http://www.livevideo.com

The funniest one is in the town of Darunia -- you can jump on top of the houses to make it to the top of the screen. When you warp there, you end up in this glitchy town. One weird thing is that there's a sign that has text that you don't see anywhere else in the game -- it says:

IT IS SAID

HAS...

Not to mention that the town is really glitchy. Enter a door and you start back on the left of the town, and the music changes as if you're inside. Keep entering the door, and it gets buggier and buggier. Eventually, the scrolling will screw up -- when you move, the graphics look all weird. The video will show you what I mean. Eventually, the scrolling is one-way, just like in SMB. Enter enough times, and you'll fall through the floor and things get even weirder. Here, the results seem random each time this glitch is done.
