In the first bit, the adult is out hunting. Unfortunately, I JUST missed catching it (on film) splashing into the water trying to catch a fish (it missed). You will see why it is best not to stand below the nest of a bird of prey (code word "projectile poo"), and then the parent arrives to feed the young. The parent starts to feed one of the young and then the other decides it is hungry. You can clearly see the first one quickly move to one side and turn its back. That is an indication that the second is the dominant nestling and the first one subordinate. When the second one is done, the first will move in again for its share. The parent won't let it go hungry. It just knows its place.

This fricking bird has been chip, chip, chipping away for two days straight around my house. Even when he's out front, I can hear him. He stopped for about 30 seconds yesterday when it started raining and I though "Thank GOD! Just keep raining!" But NO! He started up again and didn't shut up until sunset. At 6:00 am he started up, again. The other birds at least shut up every once in a while.

Through the downtown core and ending up at the Unitri building, a unique more...model home which, despite being a shining example of compact, affordable, environmentally-friendly architecture, has been sitting empty and abandoned for a number of years. It was built in 1996 by Ben Kutner, an Ottawa architect, and based on the Blom geometric architectural design. This sort of design has been widely used in Holland where land is at a premium. Unfortunately, the Unitri building has only had one tenant, Kutner. Unfortunately, legal issues over the land it sits on have forced Kutner's design to remain a great idea but entirely on paper. One of the highlights was Ken playing "Angel of Lyon" (Tom Russell and Steve Young) which he hasn't been doing very much. Usually Rob sings it while Ken works his magic with the guitar solo. However, this time Ken did both the singing and the solo. Ken's rendering of the solo rivals Andrew Hardin, Tom Russell's former back-up man. A favorite song played masterfully!

The pond had turtles sunning themselves on the log platform in the water. They dropped into the water as soon as they saw me and I waited a long time hoping they would come back (which they didn't...). In the meantime, there were bees galore, and a bunch of Blue Jays chasing each other through the trees, and frogs, and I think a deer in the brush, though I didn't see it.
