"Hurt" is a song written by Trent Reznor, first released on Nine Inch Nails' 1994 album The Downward Spiral. In 2002, "Hurt" was covered by Johnny Cash to critical acclaim; it was one of Cash's final hit releases before his death. Its accompanying video, featuring images from Cash's life and directed by Mark Romanek, was named the best video of the year by the Grammy Awards and Country Music Awards. Reznor said that when Rubin first asked if Cash could cover his song, he was "flattered" but worried that "the idea sounded a bit gimmicky." He became a fan of Cash's version, however, once he saw the music video. “ I pop the video in, and wow… Tears welling, silence, goose-bumps… Wow. I just lost my girlfriend, because that song isn't mine anymore… It really made me think about how powerful music is as a medium and art form. I wrote some words and music in my bedroom as a way of staying sane, about a bleak and desperate place I was in, totally isolated and alone. [Somehow] that winds up reinterpreted by a music legend from a radically different era/genre and still retains sincerity and meaning — different, but every bit as pure.

"Rockstar" is the fifth U.S. single (although later re-released) by the Canadian rock band Nickelback from their 2005 fifth studio album All the Right Reasons. It was only released in the U.S. more...and Canada, and has since been re-released worldwide. Spoken-word vocals between each verse are provided by Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top. "'Bad Motor Scooter" performed here in 1974 was the second track from the album Montrose by the band of the same name. It, along with "Rock Candy" was arguably the best known song by the band, Montrose, with lyrics penned by frontman Sammy Hagar. It comes in with a phase-shifting guitar that sounds like a motorcycle. It had been that guitar sound that became the defining component of the song. When the song was conceived before this guitar sound, the band and Ted Templeman were not impressed because they thought it was missing something to make it stand out. Ronnie Montrose stumbled upon it while messing with a slide and fuzz box one day in the studio. Ronnie played his guitar in open D tuning, Montrose improvised what became the motorcycle sound while Templeman and engineer Donn Landee kept him going while they failed to get the tape rolling. The sound became the most recognizable feature of the song.

This is a cover of The Beatles' "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" which also featured on the recording George Harrison and Jeff Lynne on backing vocals and acoustic guitar. He began playing guitar when he was three, developing his unique style of playing the instrument flat on his lap. In the mid eighties while playing in famed blues club Albert's Hall Jeff was discovered by guitar virtuosos Stevie Ray Vaughan and Albert Collins. In his Memory: Born in Toronto, Ontario, Jeff Healey lost his sight when he was eight months old to retinoblastoma, a rare cancer of the eyes. His eyes had to be surgically removed, and he was given artificial replacements. After living cancer-free for 38 years, he subsequently developed sarcoma in his legs; despite surgery for this, the sarcoma spread to his lungs and ultimately was the cause of his death on March 2, 2008, he was 41. His death came a month before the release of his new album, Mess of Blues, which was his first rock album in 8 years.

Recorded at the Newport Folk Festival on Sunday July 25, 1965. This was the night when Dylan "went electric". "Like a Rolling Stone" is a song by American songwriter Bob Dylan. One of his best-known and most influential works, it had its origin as a short story Dylan had written before developing it as a song and recording it in 1965. The basis of "Like a Rolling Stone" was a twenty-page story written by Dylan. It was, according to him, "just a rhythm thing on paper all about my steady hatred, directed at some point that was honest." From the story, Dylan wrote four verses and one chorus in Woodstock, New York. The song was written on an upright piano in the key of G sharp; it was changed to C on the guitar while recording. The song was originally written in 3/4 (waltz) time, and with a length of 1:36, was much shorter than the released 4/4 version.

Saving Abel is an American rock band formed by Jared Weeks and Jason Null in 2004. The band's name references the biblical story of Cain and Abel. Null came up with the name saying “I googled the story of Cain and Abel and found a line about ‘there was no Saving Abel,’ which just jumped out at me.” Saving Abel released their self-titled, major label debut album on March 11, 2008. The album features the single "Addicted" which peaked at #2 on the US Mainstream Rock Chart. As of July 2008 Saving Abel's self-titled album has sold over 87,000 copies.

This was the first single released from Switch, the 11th studio album by the Australian rock band INXS. The single was released on November 29, 2005. It is the first album recorded with new lead singer J.D. Fortune, who won the Rock Star: INXS competition to succeed Michael Hutchence, the band's late lead singer. The song debuted on the show Rock Star: INXS during the time when Fortune was vying for the lead vocalist spot in INXS. The eight contestants were challenged to write lyrics to melody written by Andrew Farriss. They were divided into two teams of four. When Fortune did not see eye to eye with his team (which included runner-up Marty Casey), he decided to venture out on his own and write his own lyrics. A few weeks after Fortune's win, the NBC drama Las Vegas chose "Pretty Vegas" as a promotional song for its upcoming season in 2005.
