Driving across the Plimsoll Bridge, with views of the Clifton Suspension Bridge, and down onto the Portway. We have right of way. As traffic is very slow moving, cars take it in turns to merge with the main stream.

This is SPEEDED UP. The morning of Christmas Day and not much traffic. A drive to the beach at Branksome Dene Chine on the south coast of England to see the sand, the waves, and, at the very end, a distant view of Old Harry Rock. [Edited in iMovie on a Mac.]

Driving in Bristol, England, on a November morning, 2007. From Midland Road, down Old Market, around the roundabout, into Bond Street, past the new 500 million pound Cabot Circus shopping mall, under construction, and up Stokes Croft. Under the railway bridge near Zetland Road, up Cranbrook Road with its heavily pollarded trees, right into Clare Avenue, left into Kings Drive, through the mini roundabout and up to the junction with Kellaway Avenue. This is at actual speed but I've edited out almost ten minutes of waiting at traffic lights.

The beautiful A28 péage autoroute (freeway) from Le mans to Rouen in France is so new it isn't even shown as so much a dotted line on my 2003 Michelin France Roads Atlas. Here's a 25 mile stretch of it, speeded up to about 350mph. In all that way, there were only 8 other cars (and four of them were British registered), one truck and one lorry. The speed limit is 130kph (81mph) but it was hard to keep below the mid eighties, and the silver car that passed me towards the end was doing well over 100. Sorry but this is one I just had to speed up. Keep the sound up loud!

The Montparnasse Tower in Paris is over 200 metres high (that's over 620 feet). I think a lot of people just don't know about it. It's open to the public and you can go right to the top. There's a fast lift to an enclosed viewing area on the 56th floor, and you can walk up some steps and walk about on the roof itself and enjoy the panorama. From the top you look out over the rooftops of Paris, to Montmartre, and the Eiffel Tower, and down to Montparnasse railway station.

Driving in Normandy, going north towards Falaise in spring 2007. This section takes us through the small town of Putanges-Pont-Écrepin. The music is 'Just Because' by Duane Eddy and 'Mad Lad' by Chuck Berry. I recommend the little café on the right, (partly hidden by a parked van), just before the bridge.

We're travelling north-east on the M5 motorway and turning off at junction 19. This stretch of the M5 was built onto the side of the Gordano Valley. I-Spy the south-westbound lanes, getting higher and higher until they're some forty feet above us. As we drive uphill, there's an extra, fourth lane on the far right, to let faster traffic get past the slower traffic that's on the left. I-Spy where this lane comes to an end. It's clearly and repeatedly signed, but you'll see skid marks where the blind, the careless and the unwary have been caught out. I-Spy how well everyone drives and how no-one gets blocked. Slower traffic goes at around 60mph on the left; traffic at the legal maximum of 70mph in the middle lane; and in the outside lane traffic often goes at eighty-ninety. I-Spy a broken-down car on the hard shoulder, on the far left. I-Spy a lorry-load of hay, going the other way. If you're not familiar with British motorways - as we come down the hill towards Avonmouth, I-Spy the signs for the junction one mile ahead, then again at half a mile. And on the left, I-Spy the helpful "\\\", "\\", and "\" countdown markers: 300, then 200, then 100 yards before the exit. Ten points for each thing you spot. But then, who's counting? And finally, you're right, it's Fats again on the soundtrack.

Hey, why has this come out so over-exposed? What have LiveVideo done to it? And when are they going to display wide screen properly? TV and camcorders are wide-screen, so why not LiveVideo? This is a drive early on a Sunday morning across the old Severn motorway Bridge. I believe it was opened in about 1970 and there are continuing maintenance problems with it. Apparently some of the thousands of steel supporting cables have snapped, due to a rust problem. Work is ongoing, as it has been for many years. The recent opening of the new bridge a few miles further west has taken away a lot of traffic from this wonderful old structure. Actually, it's two bridges, one after the other. Look out for the single supporting tower (pole? mast? pylon?) of the Wye river bridge, immediately after the main suspension bridge. And see the dual language English/Welsh road signs on the other side!

This is just few stretches of the M5 motorway, driving east through Devon and Somerset on a sunny afternoon in August. The speed limit on UK motorways is 70mph. The traffic in the inside (left hand) lane was doing sixty. I won't say what speeds I was doing but anything that passed me was doing well over eighty, some of them over ninety. I was surprised at the speed of that hi-top white van! Look out for the return of those chevrons towards the end. They're part of a plan by the Department of Transport to encourage drivers to keep their distance. (The sign says 'Keep apart two chevrons'.)
