Unfortunately, Ernie loses his place whenever something interrupts him--which frustrates Bert over and over again. From Episode 162: Gordon brings Melody with him to the store, claiming that she has trouble counting higher than seven--and asking Mr. Hooper to help by showing Melody twelve bottles of ginger ale. She counts the bottles twice without any mistakes, and earns some candy as a reward. (Nitpick alert: did you notice the badly concealed Canada Dry logos on the ginger ale? Showing brand names or commercial logos on Sesame Street was taboo until VERY recently...)

Although they come up with different answers, Gordon points out that both children are right. (I'm surprised that this scene didn't turn into a "Three of these things belong together..." segment!)

This cartoon is actually part of a series that dates back to Sesame Street's test-show stage in mid-1969; joking about the space program was good topical humor for the parents, too! :-)

I recently discovered this gem on YouTube, thanks to a user in Norway who uploads a lot of kidvid material. Before he posted this dubbed version, I hadn't seen the cartoon in ANY language since my kindergarten years--and the Norwegian kids' reactions are just as spontaneously funny. From Episode 1933: The title pretty much explains it all; Sesame Street used to air several films with more...the same marching band, judging by the uniforms. Some (like this clip) showed the people forming/announcing a geometric shape; others taught numbers by counting drumbeats. (Before anyone asks: the three I've posted here are the ONLY clips I have from that collection so far.)
